Title: A Court of Thorn and Roses

I went into it not sure how it would go because people seemed to either love it or hate it. Final verdict, I loved certain parts of the story and didn't care much for others which put me at about a 3.5
Feyre was the breadwinner of her family after her father found himself handicapped. Hunting and bargaining, she's run herself into the ground to keep her family afloat, and I think in the process lost a piece of her soul. With the burden of survival on her shoulders, everything else fades into the background. Add to the fact that her father seems to ignore her, her youngest sister seems blind to how much work everything takes, and her other sister Nesta is just a biotch for ....reasons I'm still not sure about. I'm so over the ' I take care of everyone and get no respect or caring in return trope. I'm so hard and tough because they couldn’t care for themselves without me. In this instance, Feyre mad a promise to her mother on her deathbed to care for everyone. She was eight at the time, and not even the eldest sibling, so, I’m not sure why her mother would've made that promise. This was one of those reoccurring sour notes for me. Every time it was brought up ( which was often) I cringed. It's her hunting that leads her to kill a wolf who turned out to be a faerie which leads to her being taken in his stead across the wall that's separated the two races. This is when the story begins to kick off. The beast turns out to be a High Fae named Tamlin. Their push and pull was entertaining. I enjoyed watching them come to be friends and later more. But for some reason I was drawn more to the minor character Lucien. There was something mysterious, charming, and intriguing about him. I’m hoping to see more of him in the future. I don’t want to give away anything , because this plot is a windy one full of secrets that come to life, but I liked the unique bits. The way she handled the faeries, the history, and the challenges. I didn’t like the reputation of certain things, or the over used plot devices that showed up.
